An Asian fashion exhibition with a twist, the Asian Summer Trunk Show organised by Nikaza and Prints & Motifs, and due to be held at the Danubius Hotel promises emerging designers, and less bling! Hallelujah!
Having so excitedly exclaimed, the designer we’re most interested is Nino’s Creations who will be exhibiting their handmade thread and gota jewellery. They make bangles, jhumkas and really the loveliest maang tikkas and maatha patties. Vibrantly coloured and meticulously crafted, their collections are inspired by traditional jewellery from one of Pakistan’s greatest heritage cities, Multan – also home to Pakistan’s famous blue pottery. It’s perfect if you’re preparing for a mehndi or sangeet, or just for wandering about the house as boho Mughal maharani (who does THAT? Pfft.)
The other designers exhibiting include Parul Goel and Ra Abta Jewellery from India, Shibori from Pakistan, and 101 Creations by Heena Gandhi. I like Ra Abta‘s stuff – their designer Rahul Luthra does a fine line in jhumkas, chaand balis and other traditional pieces (including some rather lovely naths btw), but it’s his less formal, more modern designs that are more exciting – in fact I have a a pair of fringed ear cuffs by Ra Abta that I love (the palm cuffs, statement or no, I can’t really get behind). Bollywood actor Sonakshi Sinha seems to be a fan too – she often appears wearing their ear studs, rings and I think I even remember a headpiece from some months ago.
Also, make sure to ask about Parul Goel‘s hit dhoti suits from her last winter collection. Not sure if she’s doing them anymore, but they were lovely, and with the dhoti trousers in comfy and flattering jersey, quite irresistible.
