Jashn-e-Rekhta, the world’s largest Urdu festival which is usually held in Delhi, will be held online next week and our khushi knows no bounds. The glorious festival will be held over two days online and will be accessible from anywhere in the world. Kya baat hai 🌷
It promises to be a joyous celebration of Urdu brimming with poetry, romance and nostalgia. The line up features some of Urdu’s finest in 32 live sessions, via 3 virtual stages. The highlights include: poets Javed Akhtar and Manoj Muntashir on cinema, lyrics and poetry; scientist Dr Azra Raza presenting the world of great poet Ghalib; Pakistani actor Sania Saeed, film director Tanuja Chandra and filmmaker and author Nasreen Munni Kabir in a conversation on the contribution of Urdu to cinema; and popular singer Shilpa Rao on reviving the ghazal for millennials (yes please!), a celebration of Guru Nanak Dev’s 500th birth anniversary in a specially curated session of music and poetry, and the UK premiere of an Indo-Pak themed play told through letters ‘Miya, Biwi aur Wagah’.
