Jewellers to the stars (Bollywood, Hollywood, and more recently Kate Middleton), Amrapali have come to the Wonder Room at Selfridges. Known for reviving age-old jewellery-making techniques and infusing them with a modern sensibility, the Jaipur based brand already stock at the V&A, and have a shop in Mayfair. The new space at Selfridges houses their iconic, more high-end collections – notably the Dark Maharaja, Rajasthan and the new Manik collection.
Named after a legendary royal courtesan from 500BC, Amrapali employs 2,000 craftsmen whose seriously beautiful work includes polki, enamelling and the use of precious and semi-precious stones. My absolute Amrapali favourites though are the statement tribal necklaces, as often seen on the likes of Vidya Balan and Deepika Padukone. Here’s quite possibly my favourite Kareena Kapoor appearance of all time (that’s a vintage Christian Lacroix jacket as blouse btw).
Prices at the Selfridges store start at £1,500, but there’s a much wider range of pieces and affordability on the Amrapali website. In the meantime, if you want to see some exquisitely crafted baubles, and/ or you’re feeling flush/ it’s your birthday/ you’ve just cashed in an offshore account, wander on over to the Wonder Room and see what all the fuss is about. Here are some more photos!
